ROAD STUD
Road studs (also known as raised pavement markers or cat’s eyes) are highly durable traffic safety devices embedded or fixed onto road surfaces. They are designed to improve visibility, maintain lane discipline, and provide tactile/audible feedback when driven over.
Standard Colors & Meanings
Road stud color coding functions like an active traffic signal to safely guide motorists under low-light, rainy, or foggy conditions:
- Green: Marks crossable boundaries, such as layout transitions, slip road exits/entries, or bus bays.
- Red: Indicates dangerous outer boundaries that should not be crossed (e.g., left road shoulders/edges bordering hard zones).
- White: Acts as lane separators or dividers on dual-carriageway or multi-lane highways.
- Amber / Yellow: Placed along the offside right edges or central medians to warn drivers of upcoming sharp curves and continuous boundaries.
- Blue: Used primarily to quickly indicate the locations of street-side fire hydrants or emergency utilities for medical/fire crews.
