TRAFFIC CONE

Traffic cones (also known as pylons, caution cones, or safety cones) are highly visible markers used to temporarily redirect vehicle and pedestrian traffic in a safe manner. Standard industrial cones are engineered to comply with national guidelines—such as the Indian Roads Congress (IRC:SP:55) standards—to guarantee optimal height, color, and daytime or nighttime reflectivity.

Standard Specifications & Code Requirements

Per Indian road safety specifications, traffic cones must be chosen based on the speed and nature of the deployment zone:

• 500 mm (1.5 ft): Authorized for low-speed areas (up to 65 km/h) such as local municipal roads, parking complexes, and commercial indoor sites.

• 750 mm (2.5 ft): Mandatory for mid-to-high speed areas (66 to 100 km/h) like major state highways, construction zones, and utility lanes.

• 1000 mm (3.3 ft): Specialized hexagonal or heavyweight variants deployedon expressways or high-wind environments for maximum structural visibility.

• Reflectorization: Cones must have brilliant fluorescent orange or red bodies. For 750 mm highway variants, two retro-reflective white bands (a 150 mm upper sleeve and a 100 mm lower sleeve) are required to ensure uniform high-intensity visibility at night.
